Accrington Stanley FC have made a generous donation to local families and children who are in need this Christmas.

They have once again teamed up with Hyndburn's largest employer and family stand sponsors, Studio, to donate children's toys, selection boxes and winter coats to those less fortunate this Christmas.

The donation, which took place in conjunction with #AmazingAccrington, will be delivered to local families in need through Maundy Relief.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Maundy have provided over 8,030 community lunches, 2,515 sessions of counselling to adults and young people, 1,746 hours of welfare benefit advice, distributed food parcels for 2,421 families and single people, as well as 1,000 meals over Christmas.

Stanley assistant manager Jimmy Bell said: "We are a real community club here at Stanley and both the management staff and players will do anything to help and support great initiatives like this one.

"Matt Butcher, Harry Pell and David Morgan have been down helping with the donation today, we have absolutely loved it and Harry has bought himself a lovely new green jumper from Maundy too!"

Maundy Relief manager Lucy Hardwick added: "We have been doing everything we can to support our local community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and it's donations like this from Accrington Stanley and Studio which really do make a massive difference.

"It's been fantastic having the Accrington Stanley players down here doing their bit for the community, supporting us and all those families who really need it at Christmas."

Patron of Maundy Relief Julie Hesmondhalgh said: "There's nothing better than seeing everyone pulling together to support those who are less fortunate during the festive period.

"We can't thank Accrington Stanley, Studio and Amazing Accrington enough for putting all this together, you have made such a big difference to so many lives this Christmas."

Director of HR at Studio Collette King added: "The feedback we received last year from Stanley and Maundy was wonderful, to hear how many local families we had supported made us more determined than ever to donate again this year.

"We hope the selection boxes, winter coats and children's toys go some way to putting smiles on a few faces once again this year."
