According to TripAdvisor, these are the top five walks in the area. 

Preston Guild Wheel

This walk is a 21-mile circular route around Preston that is perfect for walking or cycling and can be joined at any point, if you wanted something a bit shorter. 

It is ranked at number four of things to do in Preston and has a rating of 4.5 from 440 reviews on TripAdvisor. 

It has a number of attractions along the route, including Brockholes Nature Reserve, Ribble Link Canal and Preston Dock. 

There are also lots of cafes and shops along the way if you needed a break and some light refreshments. 

Warton Crag

Warton Crag is a 2.6 mile walk located in the village of Warton, Fylde which is 13km from Blackpool. 

This idyllic walk features grassland, woodland, a limestone quarry and rare butterflies. 

It is just 1.5 miles from Carnforth Railway station and has frequent bus links. 

It's rated as the number one activity in Warton on TripAdvisor and features amazing views of Morecombe and Lancaster. 

Pendle Sculpture Trail

The third best walk in Lancashire according to TripAdvisor reviews is the Pendle Sculpture Trail, located in Barley. 

The three-mile-long walk is mainly flat and features a nice picnic area and two pubs along the way. 

It has amazing sculptures showcasing mythical creatures, which are located in Aikten Wood.  

Tolkien Trail

This picturesque walk follows in the footsteps of The Lord of the Rings author J.R.R Tolkien and is fourth on the TripAdvisor list. 

The 5.5 mile walk supposedly inspired the creation of the middle earth, as Tolkein studied at the nearby Stonyhurst College. 

There is limited car parking spaces in the village of Hurst Green and also some bus routes. 

On the route is a historic 17th century inn, now a dog-friendly gastropub serving hearty food called The Shireburn Arms. 

Bilsborrow Pub Walk

Bilsborrow Pub Walk is a four mile circular route along the Lancaster Canal, featuring lots of canalside wildlife and barges.

Visitors can stop off at Owd Nell's Tavern for food, a drink or even an ice cream after a walk through the open countryside. 

This was rated 4.5 on TripAdvisor by walkers, placing it the fifth-best walk in Lancashire.
