Pupils from a Blackburn primary school helped to plant 420 trees in a park last week as part of an initiative marking the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
The Woodland Trust donated 420 tree saplings to the Friends of Roe Lee Park and on December 9 the Friends group was joined by 60 pupils from Roe Lee Primary School, the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, Councillor Derek Hardman and Ward Councillors Sylvia Liddle, Ron Whittle and Phil Riley, for a tree planting exercise.
Jason Walker from the Friends group said: "Thank you to our volunteers Louise, Michael and Maurice for their kind assistance and to the children who joined us in helping to plant these trees."
To mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022, a unique tree planting initiative was created called the Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC), which invites people from across the United Kingdom to 'Plant a tree for the Jubilee'.
People are encouraged to play their part to enhance their environment by planting trees during the official planting season between October to March.
With a focus on planting sustainably, the QGC will encourage planting of trees to create a legacy in honour of The Queen’s leadership of the nation, which will benefit future generations.
A spokesperson for the QGC said: "We are delighted to see so many schools and communities across the UK planting Jubilee trees using saplings provided by QGC Partner The Woodland Trust."
