This photo probably taken in the 1920s shows the signal box and loading bay at Aspen Colliery in Oswaldtwistle.
Mining had been undertaken at the pit, off Blackburn Road, from the nineteenth century and would continue until its closure in 1930. The colliery was served by its own rail line and the Leeds-Liverpool Canal
