LONG before storms were given a name, East Lancashire had regularly dealt with the aftermath of Mother Nature flexing her muscles.

These photographs are taken from our archives showing some of the scenes of winter weather around the area.

Several feet of snow was not uncommon and traffic was brought to a standstill.

But the spirit of the area shone through with neighbours helping each other out and making sure that no-one was suffering unduly.

As we approach the snow season once more, it’s almost comforting to realise that it’s nothing new.

Do you have any pictures showing snow falls of the past around East Lancashire? If you do, we’d love to hear from you.
