WHAT a fabulous photograph this is. We know it’s of the Tarmac plant on Lowerhouse Lane in Burnley probably around the late 1920s or early 1930s.
It looks a bit of a Heath Robinson contraption with the wonderful old truck parked ready to collect its load but it clearly did the job.
It’s the sort of thing that young boys would probably make a model of using their Meccano sets which were among the most popular Christmas presents at this time.
