THIS art deco masterpiece was a familiar sight in Burnley town centre for more than 40 years.
Built in 1937, the Odeon Cinema was situated on the corner of Gunsmith Lane and Yorkshire Street.
This picture was taken in 1962 when it was screening the comedy On The Beat starring Norman Wisdom.
The Odeon could seat over 2,100 cinemagoers and unusually for pre-war cinemas it had a large car park from the outset.
In the Sixties the Odeon was also home to regular bingo sessions as interest in cinema waned. It closed in November 1973 and was subsequently demolished. Sainsbury’s would later occupy the site.
