Police made a shop volunteer's day after arranging for her to meet a Coronation Street legend.

Officers policing and supporting the Leyland Christmas light switch on on Saturday made the magic happen for charity shop volunteer, Evelyn, when they arranged for her to have a picture taken with actor Alan Halsall, who plays Tyrone Dobbs in the long-running ITV soap.

Alan was in Lancashire to switch on Leyland's Christmas lights, and when the police discovered Evelyn was a huge fan, and even carries a signed photo of him in her handbag, they just had to try and make all her dreams come true.

A spokesperson for the police said on Saturday: "Community policing supported the Leyland Christmas Light Switch on today.

"It was good to see the community spirit, there was a family atmosphere where many people were enjoying the live music and appearance by Alan Halsall (AKA Tyrone from Coronation Street).

"We met a lovely lady called Evelyn who volunteers at the local charity shop and had a signed photograph of Alan Halsall (Tyrone) in her handbag - huge fan of his.

"She was over the moon when we managed to arrange her to have her own photograph with him - the event was a success and even the weather did not deter people from attending."
