Men armed with hammers threatened staff at a convenience store before stealing cash and cigarettes.

Police are appealing for information after the robbery at a Spar in Wood Lane, Heskin.

The incident happened on Wednesday night (December 1) at about 9pm where two men armed with hammers came into the shop to steal cigarettes and cash, threatening two members of staff.

Both offenders are described as white, in their early 20s, of medium build and were wearing balaclavas and dark clothing. They spoke with northern accents.

DC Philip Hampson said: “This is a shocking incident which must have been terrifying for the victims who were threatened by these men in their place of work.

“Thankfully, they were not physically hurt during the robbery but have been left understandably extremely shocked and shaken.

“These individuals were prepared to use weapons in order to steal and we are following a number of lines of enquiry in order to identify them.

“I would appeal to anyone who think they may know who the people in the CCTV images are or who may have been in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious, in particular a blue vehicle, to contact us.

“I would especially appeal to anyone who has dash cam or CCTV footage to get in touch.”
