Street lights near a Blackburn park and school are off due to an electrical fault.

Blackburn with Darwen Council and Queens Elizabeth Grammar School (QEGS) said they were aware of the fault on West Park Road near to Corporation Park.

The lower section of the road which leads on to Preston News Road has been left in near darkness.

One road user told us: β€œIt has been pitch black and dangerous for parents picking up children.”

QEGS said it had made enquiries after concerns and it has been revealed outages were caused by a faulty Electricity North West Cable.

The Council said they had have received communication from them stating that they attended site on the 29 November and carried out some excavations opposite the school. It appears the fault is located directly outside the school entrance.

For safety reasons Electricity North West are unable to close both pavements at the same time, as this would force pedestrians on to the road.

However, once the first excavations are reinstated, they will excavate on the same side as the school. Once this has repair has taken place, the complete outage will be repaired.
