A YOUNG mum claims she was left humiliated after being accused of shoplifting at a newly-opened department store.

Abbie Murray, 26, was shopping at The Range in Bury with her five-month-old son and 11-month-old stepson when the drama unfolded.

She says she mistakenly placed two packets of paracetamol in a pram and attempted to leave.

But Abbie says she was then approached by two security guards, who asked to look through her bags.

She claims a male security guard accused her of spitting in his face and she was then dragged her out of the store, while almost choking.

Abbie claimed she had made an honest mistake but was asked to show identification.

She says she was then dragged backwards by her coat out of the store away from her children, while she begged the security guard to stop, which caused a panic attack.

Abbie, from Radcliffe, said: "I can remember, as it was happening, I just felt humiliated and embarrassed.

"That it was happening in front of all these people and my two children were left on their own in the middle of the store.

"I went into a full panic attack.

"After it happened, the store asked to take my name and details but I was so shaken up I could barely write my name.

"Both my children were extremely traumatised by it and were very upset when we got home.

"I don't think I could face the security guard again, I won't be going back to The Range.

"But I would like to ask the security guard how he would have felt if this had happen to his mother, sister, wife, or daughter."

She says that to be "dragged away from my children was heartbreaking and no apology can make up for that".

A spokesman for The Range said: “Following an incident in our Bury store on Saturday a customer was stopped by our store detectives.

"The safety of our customers and staff is of paramount importance, especially during this challenging time.

"The matter is being investigated internally and has been reported to the police, we will work with them to provide any further information that they require.”
