A MAN arrested for a domestic assault and criminal damage made things worse for himself as he was being booked in at the police station.
Blackburn magistrates heard Curtis Brooks said that if he was going to prison he might as well go for a proper reason and started swinging at a police officer.
He first punch missed but the second caught the officer on the jaw and colleagues had to take Brooks to the floor.
Brooks, 28, of Thwaites Road, Oswaldtwistle, pleaded guilty to criminal damage to a plate, assault and assaulting an emergency worker. He was remanded on bail for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.
Drew Barrow, prosecuting, said Brooks was at home with his partner and he had been drinking.
"She said she knows his limits and told him to stop which made him angry," said Mr Barrow. "He became abusive and aggressive and told her to leave the house before swinging a punch at her."
The punch missed but Brooks pushed his partner against a worktop and threw a plate across the room.
Gareth Price, defending, said it was the first incident of violence within the three year relationship.
"Drink and mental health issues played a part in his behaviour," said Mr Price.
