SNOW and high winds wreaked havoc across Lancashire last night (November 26) with weather warnings in place for much of the weekend.

Storm Arwen presented East Lancashire with its first snow of this winter, leading to fallen trees and difficult driving conditions on many of the major roads in the county.

A spokesperson for Blackburn with Darwen Council said last night: "Its wild out there. Needless to say, we are very busy on the network to deal with the effects of Storm Arwen.

Lancashire Telegraph:

"The A675 is closed between Egerton Road and San Marino due to a fallen tree.

"We are reacting to a number of additional fallen trees which will be causing localised disruption. If you spot any, please let us know and we can deal with them.

Lancashire Telegraph:

"Snow is affecting higher routes across the borough, particularly in open areas such as Bull Hill, Broadhead, Edgworth, Blacksnape and Belmont.

"Our gritters continue to work through the night to get these routes clear. Lower levels are clear and any accumulated snow in these areas is now thawing. This will present an ice risk with Road Surface Temperatures below freezing.

"Yellow Warning of Wind remains in force until 6pm Saturday."

Lancashire Police said: "Take care when travelling this weekend and check your route before leaving home.

Lancashire Telegraph:

"This driver had a lucky escape when a tree hit his vehicle while travelling along Lodge Lane, Elswick shortly after 5am."
