POLICE were called to a busy Accrington road where a crashed car was blocking the road.

Blackburn magistrates heard Linzi Wilcock admitted she had been the driver but couldn't remember how the car had ended up where it was.

She gave a breathalyser reading more than three times the legal limit.

Wilcock, 33, of Blackburn Road, Clayton-le-Moors, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. She was made subject to a community order for 12 months with 10 days' Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and 80 hours' unpaid work.

She was banned from driving for 24 months and ordered to pay £85 costs and £95 victim surcharge.

Graham Tindall, prosecuting, said the incident happened on Whalley Road close to The Crown pub.

Gareth Price, defending, said his client was a lady of previous good character.

She had held a licence for 13 years and generally considered herself a safe driver.

"She has struggled to understand how she has got herself in this position," said Mr Price.

"She had been in The Crown drinking after work and normally her dad, who doesn't drink, would have picked her up."

Mr Price said Wilcock had suffered a number of setbacks in her personal life in recent years and the incident had led to his client starting the process of getting her life back on track.
