A WOMAN suffered a ‘horrendous ordeal’ when she was sexually assaulted in an underpass.
Officers in Burnley are still looking for the attacker after the incident on November 8 at around 5pm, near the Gannow Lane pedestrian subway.
The woman was walking alone on the subway when she noticed a man in the distance of the underpass.
The man, who seemed under the influence of drink or drugs, stumbled into her before sexually assaulting her and then running off towards Accrington Road.
The offender was white with short ginger hair and a long ginger beard. He was slim and around 6ft tall.
He was also wearing a full blue Adidas tracksuit with a white T-shirt underneath.
Although this is believed to be an isolated incident, the ordeal has “understandably caused the victim significant distress and has had an immediate impact upon her welfare”.
A police spokesperson said: “This is a horrendous ordeal for the victim and I would appeal to anyone in the area at that time to come forward with any information they have, no matter how insignificant they think it might be.
