Community heroes and volunteers were honoured at the Pride of Nelson Awards.

Nelson Town Council hosted the awards to celebrate individuals, groups and organisations that have managed to’ achieve great things and have given back to their community’.

The ceremony at Fence Gate Inn on Thursday was attended by local councillors and finalists in 10 categories. Special guests included the Mayor and Mayoress of Cllr Neil Butterworth and Victoria Fletcher and Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson 

Cllr Sadia Bashir, town council events chair, said: ‘To be amongst so many inspirational individuals, who selflessly support others was an honour in itself and it was wonderful to be able to provide a platform to recognise them. 

“I felt truly proud to be a Nelsoner knowing that this is what Nelson represents - a diverse community who is dedicated to improve the lives of others.

"A huge congratulations to all the very worthy finalists and award winners.

“A special thank-you to all our sponsors without whom our event wouldn’t have been possible and our independent panel of judges to dedicated their valuable time to this event.”

Cllr Zafar Ali ,town council chairman, added: “The ceremony was a true reflection of Nelson’s diversity. The celebration of the achievements of soo many invaluable individuals who had phenomenal success stories to tell was very touching. 

“I’d like to congratulate all the nominees, finalists and winners once again - you truly are the pride of Nelson.”
