Two East Lancashire boys who recently won a Pride of Britain Award were treated to a celebratory meal at one of Lancashire’s finest restaurants – and staff ensured that their visit was as special as possible.

Hughie Higginson, who lives in Higham, and Freddie Xavi, from Whalley, were recently named Young Fundraisers of the Year at the prestigious Pride of Britain Awards.

The have raised over £220,000 for Royal Manchester Children's Hospital after Hughie was diagnosed with leukaemia in Sept 2020.

As a special treat for the boys, their parents booked The Chef’s Table at the Michelin star Northcote restaurant in Langho.

Chef, Lisa Goodwin-Allen managed to get a picture with the boys, who even brought their Pride of Britain award along for the meal.

A spokesperson for Northcote said: “When we realised who they were we wanted to make their visit as special as possible.

“Lisa met Hughie and Freddie and chatted to them for a little while and was very inspired by their friendship and what they have achieved since Hughie’s illness.”

Executive Chef, Lisa Goodwin-Allen, said it was a “pleasure” to meet the lads and speak to them about their fundraising efforts.

She said: “It was a great pleasure to meet Hughie and Freddie and hear their amazing story.

“They have raised such an incredible amount for charity and they are two very inspirational and kind young men. I wish them the very best of luck for their fundraising.”

Commenting on Northcote’s social media post, Kim Greaves said: “Well done Hughie and Freddie on what you’ve achieved so far. You have a very special friendship.”

“I would love it if the boys asked for chicken nuggets and chips with ketchup,” said another.

Patricia Lea commented: “They are two wonderful boys.”
