The 1950s saw the growth in demand for televisions in the home and this picture from 1957 shows the workshop of Telehire in Mill Hill, Blackburn,where repairs were carried out.
TV design was very much in its infancy with small screens set into wooden cabinets. On the wall you can see some of the wiring diagrams for the various TV sets.
In 1957 there were only two channels - the BBC and ITV, the independent station, complete with advertisements had begun broadcasting only two years earlier
