Hello, and welcome, to the 2021-2022 Premier League season. Nice of you to join us, Clarets. We have been expecting you.

All joking aside, how wonderful it is to be talking about a win. About three points. And not just getting that monkey off our back, but also doing it in some style.

Let’s not beat around the bush here, we were scintillating in that first half. And very efficient and professional in the second half.

Regular listeners to our podcast will have heard me talk at length over the years about the importance of your opposition. Losing at home to Brighton but then beating Liverpool at home is not the same as winning at home to Brighton, but then losing against Liverpool.

The net result is the same - three points on the board - but losing against Norwich is important as it takes points away from your competitors. We haven’t been able to do that yet this season, having dropped points against Brighton, Leeds, Norwich and Southampton already, so getting our first win against Brentford was an important one.

Sure, we probably also need to sneak in an odd shock result or two before the season is over, but that is a worry for another day.

So on that same theme, it won’t hurt our ultimate survival prospects to have a bit of the wind taken out of Brentford’s sails!

The Clarets were everything we are often accused of not being - energetic, bold, creative, entertaining and very good value for money. Scoring three goals in the Premier League is not as easy as some of the bigger sides would lead you to believe.

So credit has to go to the three heroes who bagged the net four times (still bitter about that VAR call). And for once, the headlines were not dominated by King Cornet.

Chris Wood was so confident in his approach and played with that swagger we have been missing from him.

And Matt Lowton, who seems to thrive off competition, did a fantastic job of reminding Connor Roberts that he won’t be giving up his place easily.

It is a shame that we have to face Chelsea this weekend then head straight into the international break, as we desperately need a run of results. Even the most optimistic of Claret probably accepts that a result at Stamford Bridge will be tough.

But if we can bottle that feeling from Saturday and apply it consistently, then we may just do the impossible again.
