A pub is bringing some festive cheer to Blackburn this year by hosting their very own drive-in movie experience.

The Willows pub on Haslingden Road is setting up a giant drive-in movie screen on their car park and will be showing some Christmas classics.

From 21-23 December, they will be playing several festive movies including Home Alone one and two, The Polar Express and will have several showings of Christmas-classic, Elf.

They will also be showing The Greatest Showman for those hoping to catch an off-season movie.

Guests will also be treated to a surprise visit from Father Christmas himself, who will be handing out gifts to children as they leave.

Food will also be available and people can order some pub-grub or traditional movie snacks right to their car.

Daniel Rushton, general manager the pub, said he wanted to host a local event that the community can enjoy.

He explained: “For people around here it’s great because you’re not having to travel to somewhere like Manchester – it’s nice to have something local.

“The screen is the same size as the one they use at the Trafford Centre when they do their events.

“What’s really lovely about ours is that it’s quite a private event as there are only around 60 cars.

“Father Christmas can get around 60 cars really easily and it also means that can leave and go home really quickly instead of being stuck in a queue.”

Daniel has hosted the drive-in movie experience at the pub for three years now and he said last year’s event was a “life-saver” for the business.

Mr Rushton explained: “Last year it was an absolute life-saver for us because the council were kind enough to allow us to run the drive in movies when the pub was closed in lockdown.

“Bookings were full and we made some money in a month where we generated nothing [at the pub] so it was really good.

“People love the fact we did something last year – so I think this year will be even more popular.”

If you want to attend tickets are £20 per car and you can call 01254 681550 for times and dates of your favourite film.
