Detectives investigating a sexual assault and burglary have charged a man.

Police had received a report of an incident around 3.10am on Thursday October 21 in the St George’s Quay area of Lancaster, with officers believing the person responsible for the attack, had been in the area for around 40 minutes before the offence.

After being disturbed, the suspect ran towards the flood defences onto the Quay Side and then onto Carlisle Bridge.

Following a public appeal for information a man was arrested earlier in the week in connection with the investigation.

Mahmun Ahmed, 33, of no fixed address, has been charged with sexual assault and burglary.

He is due to appear at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, October 27 (today).
