A 20-YEAR-OLD beautician has battled through lockdown restrictions and transformed an old takeaway into a new salon.

Bethany Grogan, of Blackburn, set up the Beauty Rooms in Langho after first establishing her business at home during the lockdown in January.

Nine months later she has seen her dreams come true as she launched the new venture on Jubilee Terrace.

Beth, who attended Bowland High School, went on to study beauty therapy at Blackburn College and obtained advanced training in various procedures.

She said: “We have been battling with the uncertainty of Covid-19 restrictions, and the implications that the pandemic have put on the beauty industry.

“We offered 50% reduction of all treatments to NHS staff, for their continued commitment to keeping people safe.”

For the past two years, Beth has offered free voluntary sessions to young children. She originally only offered six places but increased it to 11, per group, due to demand.

Beth said: “The children attended, learned different beauty techniques, practised on each other, ate sandwiches, crisps and pop, and had a right good time.

“It was fun, adventurous and allowed them to find their brave. All have some form of or are affected by someone within their homes with mental health.

“It was about ensuring that all children have a voice, are encouraged to talk, and understand that it is important to speak out, as they won’t be alone.”

When a local Chinese takeaway was put on the market in her neighbouring village she secured finance to purchase the property.

She said: “After five months of struggles of sourcing materials and supplies, delivery delays, contractors having to self-isolate, the shop now looks like a completely different building.”

Beth will be joined by other specialists in the shop. She added: “I would like to thank all my family, friends and clients for their continued support. My mum and dad have worked round the clock.

“I would also like to thank people in Langho for making me feel so welcome to the village and being patient with me whilst undertaking disruptive major renovation work.

“I really am blessed. This really is a dream come true.”
