BURNLEY are back on the road in the Premier League this weekend when they take on Ralph Hasenhuttl’s Southampton.

The Clarets are still searching for a first league win of the season following last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at Manchester City.

Team news

Burnley will make late calls on Ben Mee, Matej Vydra and Charlie Taylor after all three missed last weekend’s trip to Manchester City.

Dale Stephens is also back on the grass as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury.

As for the hosts, Jack Stephens remains sidelined with a knee injury but Scotland international Che Adams is available.

Opposition lowdown

Southampton finished 15th in the Premier League last season under Hasenhuttl – four points above the Clarets.

The Saints brought in six new signings over the summer including Adam Armstrong, Romain Perraud and Lyanco.

Hasenhuttl’s men sit in 15th place in the league table after picking up seven points from their opening eight matches.

They recorded a 1-0 win against Leeds in their last outing thanks to Armando Broja’s second-half strike.

Head-to-head

  • Burnley have faced Southampton 62 times in their history, with a record of 23 wins, 17 draws and 22 defeats
  • Their last win in the fixture came in August 2019 following a 3-0 victory at Turf Moor thanks to Johann Berg Gudmundsson and a brace from Ashley Barnes

Last meeting

Southampton edged a five-goal thriller when the sides last met following a 3-2 win at St Mary’s back in April.

Dyche’s men led 2-0 after half an hour thanks to Chris Wood’s penalty and a composed finish by Matej Vydra.

But the hosts fought back through Stuart Armstrong, former Claret Danny Ings and Nathan Redmond to complete an unlikely comeback.

How to follow the action
