A new cake shop is opening in Accrington this weekend after a woman decided to expand her business.

Louise Rose Bakery will be opening its doors on Manchester Road in Baxenden on Saturday (23 October) – and the owner says there will be some tasty treats for customers to sample.

Hazel Meiring started selling her bakes almost three years ago but thinks now is the time to expand her business following a surge in cake requests after lockdown restrictions eased.

Hazel, who named the business after her daughters, said: “I’ve been interested in the shop for a while.

“At home, I sell treat boxes as well as celebration cakes. Recently, I’ve been fully booked with cakes and I haven’t been able to do the treats.

“I’ve just run out of room at home so the shop was my next step to move forward.

“My girls are super excited and they’ve been telling all of their friends ‘my mummy is getting a cake shop'.”

Ms Meiring, who has lived in Accrington for 18 years, is planning to have some samples out for customers on opening day and also have some display cabinets loaded with treats.

Nutella stuffed cookies are one of her most popular bakes, with blondies, cupcakes and more on the menu.

However, Hazel is best known for her celebration cakes and she can cater for all occasions.

She said: “Birthday cakes are my favourite things to make.

“I love seeing the children’s reactions when they come to collect a cake from me – it’s amazing to see them so excited.”

Hazel added that the Baxenden area is in need of more local and small businesses.

She said: “It’s nice to bring something new to Baxenden and to open a shop that isn’t around in our local area.”

Hazel’s customers have been very supportive of her business move.

One person said: ”I knew you’d get the shop you wanted eventually!! Looks amazing! Can’t wait to pay a visit.”

Heather Liptrot wrote: “Great news for our village, a new shop for Baxenden - and one not lost or boarded up.

“Good luck on your new journey.”

Louise Rose Bakery will be open from 10am-3pm (or until cakes sell out) on Saturday (23 October). Find the shop on Manchester Road in Baxenden.
