Taken in 1913, this picture gives a great view along Little Blackburn Road in Accrington looking towards the town hall.

Like the majority of main roads in the town at this time, the road was cobbled and you can clearly see the tram tracks in the road.

On the right is Wardleworth’s book shop, an institution in the town for over a century. The book sellers dated back to 1863 and this was its original home before moving to new premises across the road before finally moving on to the corner of Union Street and Broadway.

The shop on the corner with Bank Street on the left belonged to the impressively-named boot and shoemaker Frederick Augustus Eltoft.
