A MAN who threatened a politician and caused him to be in fear of violence will have to wait a while longer to be sentenced after a judge ordered further reports on him.

Michael Glendenning admitted leaving a series of threatening voicemails for Darwen and Rossendale MP Jake Berry during an earlier court hearing.

He was due to be sentenced earlier this year before the case was adjourned for reports and a new date of October 18 was fixed. However on Monday, The Honorary Recorder of Preston Judge Robert Altham took the decision to adjourn the case again in order for a further psychiatric report to be carried out on Glendenning of Edgemoor Close, Shawforth, Rossendale.

Applying for an adjournment defence barrister Bob Elias recognised that tragic events had taken place since the last hearing which would be a ‘concern for all right thinking people’.

Addressing him, Judge Altham said: “What I am going to do is put the sentencing off until the 20th of December when you have to come back. Please understand that you have got to come back because if you don’t, you will commit a serious bail act offence.

“The other thing is that you are subject to bail conditions that I know you are already aware of. I am told and of course accept that there have been no problems as far as your bail is concerned.

“If you breach those bail conditions by approaching the constituency offices of Mr Berry MP or by contacting him by any means whatsoever I will remand you in custody.

“I am very anxious to make sure that I have in front of me on December 20 all the material I need to pass the right sentence in respect of you - and of course that means looking at the psychiatric and other evidence in the case.”
