CHECKS to ensure alcohol and tobacco are not being sold to underage teens have been conducted in shops – with three failing to pass the test.

Officers, cadets and trading standards officials were out and about in Rossendale on Friday where they entered a total of 13 shops attempting to buy alcohol, cigarettes and fireworks.

Of those, 10 shopkeepers passed and three failed.

A spokesman said: “On Friday 15th October 2021 Hyndburn Neighbourhood Policing Team in conjunction with Hyndburn Police Cadets and Lancashire County Council Trading Standards have completed a Test Purchasing Operation in relation to underage sales of Alcohol, Cigarettes and Fireworks.

“Thirteen shops where tested for compliance and 10 shops passed with three shops failing. Those three shops will be dealt with by Trading Standards for offences under the licencing act
