An engineering graduate who achieved a first-class degree has started working with a nuclear engineering company.

Lamisa Ugradar, 22, achieved a First Class Honours degree in BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering and was also awarded with the STEM award for her dedication and motivation to her studies.

She has begun working on a leadership programme for Assystem, an Engineering company based in Blackburn that focus on Nuclear Engineering.

Lamisa, from Blackburn, hopes to continue learning more about mechanical engineering and eventually achieve chartership status to become a chartered engineer.

Lamisa said: “The support that I received was the best thing about studying at Blackburn University Centre for me. You were able to have close and supportive relationships with your tutors, they also gave us lots of help, particularly throughout the pandemic.

“The engineering workshop was really interesting and we got to use advanced machinery and tools.

“I am currently working on a leadership programme at Assystem in Blackburn which is a nuclear engineering company. I want to continue in mechanical engineering and eventually achieve chartered status to become a Chartered Engineer.

“I would definitely recommend Blackburn University Centre to other students. I have had family members also study here so it felt quite familiar. My mum and sister were able to watch me graduate.

“I am extremely proud of myself and really excited to be awarded the STEM award. I was caught off guard however I felt honoured to receive the award.”

Lamisa was one of more than 600 students who turned out to celebrate their successes at the three Blackburn University Centre graduation ceremonies at King George’s Hall on Tuesday (October 12).
