A TEENAGER was attacked with a machete in the street.

Increased police patrols are now in force after the 14-year-old was injured on Fountain Street in Accrington on Thursday, October 14.

Officers who were called to the area at 3.30pm found the teenager with injuries to his leg and wrists.

He remains in hospital and his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

No arrests have been made but officers are carrying out numerous inquiries to identify the attacker.

There was a large number of people out in the street around the time of the attack and detectives want to hear from any witnesses or anybody with mobile phone footage which could assist them with their inquiries.

Officers are particularly appealing for information about two black vehicles which were seen in the area.

This is being treated as an isolated incident bur patrols have been increased.

DI Kate Kennedy, of East CID, said: “This assault has left the teenage victim with some quite nasty injuries. Thankfully they are not as serious as they could have been. However, that is more through luck than judgement.

“We are now working to identify those responsible and I would ask anybody with information, CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage to please make contact with police as soon as possible.

“We believe there were a number of people in the street around the time of the attack and although I appreciate it must have been shocking for them to see, I believe they might have crucial information that could lead us to identify the offenders in this case.

“Although this is being treated as an isolated assault, residents will see an increased police presence in the area in the coming days. If you see an officer, feel free to say hello and pass on any information you may have.”
