A NEWSAGENT has been fined in court after being caught with more than 100 packets of unregulated cigarettes on sale.

Esmail Ashraf Said, of Market Street News, Chorley, pleaded guilty to stocking 117 packets of cigarettes and 46 packets of hand rolled tobacco that did not meet the United Kingdom's current tobacco packaging regulations.

The 29-year-old was fined a total of £252 at Lancaster magistrates' court for the breach reported by Trading Standards on November 27, 2019.

The 163 packets were forfeited by the newsagent and have since been destroyed.

Said has paid the fine imposed by the court.
