A flooring retailer which opened its first Lancashire store in July has smashed its first month sales targets.

Flooring Superstore opened a new store at The Capitol Centre on London Way, Preston, at the end of July, and following the £200,000 investment in the 4,080 square foot unit, the business exceeded their target by more than 130 per cent.

The opening of the store created four new jobs, and was the 15th in the country to be launched by the retailer - which until 2012 had no stores whatsoever - but now has more than 40 across the UK.

Over half of customers who visited the store during August made a purchase, making this one of the Flooring Superstore’s best-ever store launches.

Flooring Superstore regional manager Simon Forrester said: “We always hope when we open a new store that it is going to be well-received by shoppers, but Preston has easily exceeded all expectations.

“Footfall was high from the very first day and the fact that over 50 per cent of people who visited the store during the first month purchased flooring from us is evidence that we were correct when we chose Preston as our first outlet in Lancashire.

“We are delighted that people are so happy with our products and that we are already making a positive contribution to the local retail economy.

“This is particularly important given the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic which led to the closure of non-essential retail for such a long period.”

Shoppers visiting Flooring Superstore in Preston have access to a wide range of flooring such as carpets, vinyl, laminate, real wood, luxury vinyl tiles, EvoCore and the UK’s largest selection of artificial grass.

Mr Forrester added: “Being able to supply every type of flooring under one roof so people don’t need to shop around is definitely one of the key factors in the initial success of the Preston store.

“The other is being able to sell this flooring at online pricing, reflecting our origins as an e-commerce retailer less than ten years ago.

“We will, of course, not be resting on our laurels and are focused on ensuring the experience people receive when they visit our store is second to none, using cutting edge technology such as augmented reality so people can visualise how flooring will look in their own home before they make a purchase.”

As part of its corporate social responsibility programme, Flooring Superstore is now reaching out to local charities, voluntary organisations, or other good causes in Preston to see if they would benefit from donations of flooring for a particular project.

Donation requests can be emailed to marketing@connectionretail.co.uk

Flooring Superstore is also running a free, instore ‘Golden Ticket’ promotion.

Anyone who comes into the store, regardless of whether they are buying flooring or not, will be invited to take one of 150 tickets.

One hundred and forty five of these tickets will have 15 per cent off flooring, four will give people £250 to spend in-store and one golden ticket will give a lucky person £1,000 to spend on flooring ranges of their choice.

To date, the retailer has given away over £70,000 worth of flooring via the new store promotion.
