An internet service provider will open the doors to its first retail outlet in Blackburn with the help of a world-renowned illustrator.

6G Internet will launch the WiFi Centre in The Mall on Monday (October 18) and artist Dave Gee will be completing one of his famous doodle maps celebrating East Lancashire inside the new shop.

The map will show the company’s Internet’s coverage areas and will feature Blackburn and Darwen, Burnley, Nelson and Accrington.

Manchester-based Dave, who works under the name Dave Draws will spend three days at the shop this week, ahead of the Monday opening. Passers-by will be able to watch his work in progress through the shop windows before glimpsing the finished article when the doors open next week.

Dave has completed doodle maps around the world, from Hong Kong to New York, Prague to Paris, as well as up and down the UK.  His first mural in a barber’s shop in Manchester’s Northern Quarter catapulted him to attention, leading to the work in Hong Kong and a string of other commissions.

Dave said he will draw straight onto the wall in pen, said: “I’m looking forward to working on the 6G Internet map, which will include key landmarks and countryside from each of the areas.

“I regularly draw in public places and I’m used to people coming to watch me so I’d love people to come down and have a look at what’s going on this week – everyone is always really positive and receptive.”

Lancashire Telegraph:

Phil Walker, director of 6G Internet, said: “We wanted to make our mark on Blackburn so have invited Dave Draws to come up with one of his famous doodle maps to brighten up our outlet.
“Anyone is invited to come and watch him in action this week and, of course, we’d love to welcome people into the WiFi Centre from Monday to see the map up close and find out more about 6G Internet.”

The WiFi Centre will open its doors at 9am on Monday, October 18.
