A train was left badly damaged and the driver 'very shaken' after an object was launched at the window.

The train, pictured, was travelling at 90mph through Leyland station at around 9.45pm on Saturday.

An object is believed to have been thrown at the train, hitting the window and causing a loud bang.

Upon stopping, the driver, who had been left very shaken but luckily not injured, found a huge dent in the front window.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said on Sunday: "This train was passing through Leyland station at 90mph at 9.45 last night.

"In the darkness an object was thrown, the driver heard a loud bang, and this is the damage to the train.

"The driver was very shaken, but fortunately not injured."
