A MAN was caught in the act of stealing York paving stones from a back street.

Blackburn magistrates heard when he was arrested for the offence police discovered that Thomas Martin Leonard was drug-driving, driving while disqualified and without insurance.

Leonard, 27, of Newmarket Street, Colne, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and driving over the limit for cannabis and the derivative of cocaine and without insurance.

He was made subject to a community order for 12 months with 25 rehabilitation activity days and 40 hours’ unpaid work. He was ordered to pay £85 costs and £95 victim surcharge.

When he was interviewed by police Leonard said he needed two flagstones for use at his caravan.
