SEVERAL homes have been evacuated after a fire broke out at a property.
Two crews from Bacup responded to the incident on South Street, Bacup. It is believed that the cause of the fire was a fault with a gas pipe.
South Street has been closed while crews and Cadent gas bring the situation under control.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire said: "At 19:52hrs, two fire crews from Bacup responded to reports of a fire on South Street in Bacup. When firefighters arrived they found the fire involved an external gas pipe at the rear of a domestic property.
"Crews requested the attendance of Cadent gas to assist at the incident and as a precaution evacuated several nearby properties. A road closure is currently in place around South Street whilst crews and partners work to make the scene safe. Firefighters are still in attendance."
