Police are investigating after a significant amount of graffiti was discovered in the grounds of Clitheroe Castle.

Images show two pieces of graffiti that had been scrawled on the walls of the castle in what looks to be blue marker pen.

One of the pieces says 'Emma love Emil' in captial letters, while another says 'Emma is meals discord kitten vwv'.

There have also been names and random words scratched into the stone walls, which looks unsightly.

Sgt Kev Day, of the Ribble Valley Neighbourhood police team said they are making enquiries into the culprits, after he was left saddened at the sight of the graffiti.

Sgt Day said: "I am sad to say that a significant amount of graffiti was discovered in Clitheroe Castle keep on Tuesday morning this week.

"We are investigating this matter and have a number of enquiries to conduct in connection with the names written on the walls (yes, I know that they may not have necessarily used their own names, but thanks for suggesting that).
