Work has begun to install lighting in a town's park to encourage its use in the evenings.

Astley Park in Chorley has recently been having work done along the main driveway so bollard lighting can be put in place, which will also enable WiFi to be installed throughout the park.

The lighting will run all the way from the Park Road entrance to the Coach House.

A spokesperson for Chorley Council said: "If you visited Astley Park this week then you may have noticed some work taking place along the main driveway.

"This is the start of our work to install lighting throughout the park to encourage its use later in the evening and to help illuminate the path for our events throughout the year.

"They will be bollard lights that are sensitive to wildlife, particularly bats, for which we have done extensive work with ecologists to choose the right scheme.

"The work will also enable us to install WiFi throughout the park and the lighting will run from the Park Road entrance through to the Coach House."
