A MOTORIST ran off after piling his BMW into the back of a parked car.

Blackburn magistrates heard a delivery driver was sitting in the parked car and he suffered significant injuries.

The court heard he had not provided a statement because from sitting in his car the next thing he remembered was waking up in hospital.

Moehuddin Bagas, 41, of Blackburn Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to failing to stop after an accident which resulted in injury to Talat Ulfat. He was fined £150 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £34 victim surcharge and banned from driving for six months. A charge of driving without due care and attention, to which he had pleaded not guilty, was dismissed.

Carl Gaffney, prosecuting, said Mr Ulfat could tell police nothing about the incident but there was an independent witness. She saw the car driven by Bagas collide with the back of a car parked outside a chip shop on Preston New Road, Blackburn.

"She then saw the defendant get out of his car and run away," said Mr Gaffney.

"He says he returned and spoke to a police officer at the scene but it is the Crown's contention that he never returned."

Gareth Price, defending, said the man who was sitting in his car was wearing dark clothing which made him difficult to see.

"When my client left the scene he had no knowledge that significant injury had been caused," said Mr Price.

"He says he did return to the scene and spoke to a police officer. He also says he was breathalysed and that was negative."

Mr Price said his client had held a licence for 20 years and had never had a point on it.
