There should be a special place in hell for those who discard their takeaway rubbish from cars.

The almighty may not bother too much with this most heinous of littering crimes but I am going to put in a special request next time I get round to praying. I bring this up after having witnessed this several times on my travels over the past few weeks.

You have just eaten what must have been a great kebab or downed a mighty meat pizza. And then without a second thought you have opened your door and chucked it all on to the side of the road or in the car park.

In fact, we normally have a guy (and it is males mostly) who collects all the empties and sometimes half-eaten food and discards it without a care in the world. On occasions the car is parked metres away from a bin.

The next morning people are forced to walk past takeaway boxes and pizza boxes.

It is easy to blame the council for the rubbish but things like this have nothing to do with how much it is cleaned. The blame lies squarely on the persons who could quite easily take that trash home and place it in a bin.

This is laziness on a grand scale.

Where possible I have picked up the food containers and asked the lads to take it home. Now, I can do this as I do not care too much if I get a beating.

But most people can’t. Most people feel completely helpless when this happens because they sense they will be sworn at and made to feel as if they are the criminal.

The thing is, anyone who does this would hate it if I was to turn up at their home in the middle of the night, have a few swigs from a cola can, take a few bites on some chicken and chips and then toss it in their front garden. At the same time I may well leave the layers of wrapping paper strewn over their front porch.

There would be understandable uproar and some bloke would post the CCTV footage on their social media calling me all sorts of names.

Do these very same people, sat at home in their marble tiled dining rooms, decide to throw the plate on to the floor once they have finished their meals? Or after having had their favourite take out - fling the takeaway boxes onto the carpet? I don’t know. They may well do.

But we can change this. It is not so hard. Once you have your meal just put it back in the carrier bags and keep it with you. Or just find a litter bin on the way home.

This is not a plea for decency. It is a request. Or things might well get ugly in the next life.
