One of Lancashire's most wanted men was caught after stupidly telling police to 'come and find him' on social media.

David Holmes, who was wanted on harassment and breach of restraining order charges, posted a comment underneath a recent police appeal, which read, 'do your job properly and come and find me'.

The police responded by commenting: "Hi David, we'd advise you do the right thing and hand yourself in.

"We have an excellent track record for these sorts of things you see, so we think you'll find that sooner or later we'll 'come and find you'."

Not long after, Holmes, 27, was arrested by officers and is due to appear in court on Friday (today).

It is not known exactly how, or when police actually located Holmes, from Skelmersdale, but it is widely accepted that police can track a social media users' whereabouts using intel, or location finders.

Lancashire Telegraph:

In retaliation to Holmes' taunts, and to warn others, officers took to their Facebook page and posted the following, accompanied by a screenshot of the 27-year-old's previous comment: "That awkward moment when we do actually arrest and charge you.

"You might remember from our recent Op Hunter post, that David thought it wise to pop us a comment after seeing his face on our 'Most Wanted' list.

"The moral of this story is that it's probably not a wise move. We are after all, the police."

A later update read: "Following our previous appeal wanted man David Holmes has been arrested and charged.

"The 27-year-old was wanted as part of Operation Hunter, which was launched in July targeting the county’s most wanted individuals.

"Holmes, from Skelmersdale has been charged with harassment and breaching a restraining order, and is due to appear at court today."
