A MAN attacked his mum when she intervened in a row between him and his girlfriend.

Blackburn magistrates heard Damon Peter Brindle pushed his mum before punching her to the side of the face.

The court was told his mum was left 'shaking and crying' after the incident.

Brindle, 32, of Higher Church Street, Darwen, was convicted in his absence of assaulting Teresa Brindle. He was made subject to a community order for 12 months with a six months drug rehabilitation requirement and 25 days rehabilitation activity requirement, fined £20 and ordered to pay £100 compensation to his mum and £100 costs. He was also made subject to a restraining order which prohibits him from having contact with his mum for 12 months.

Graham Tindall, prosecuting, said Brindle and his girlfriend were sitting on the sofa at his mum's address when he took exception to his girlfriend looking at her mobile phone.

He pushed his head against his partner's head and when his mum objected he came at her and pushed her with both hands. He punched her and put one of her hands in his mouth causing some cuts.

"She was scared by his behaviour and was left shaking and crying after he left the house," said Mr Tindall.

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said the court would take a dim view of an attack by the defendant on his mother.

"It must have been a very unpleasant experience for her," said Mr Taylor.
