A collection of samurai swords have been handed into the police after a member of the public 'found' them.

On Wednesday, officers were surprised when the three swords, of varying sizes, were handed in to Lancaster police station.

To demonstrate their size, police placed a butter knife alongside one of the largest weapons, showing the potential danger possessing or wielding one of these swords could pose.

A spokesperson for the police said: "Thank you to the concerned member of public who found these swords in Lancaster.

"They have now been seized and will be sent for destruction.

"The butter knife is a rare sight in a police station and is only there to give an indication of size."
