A 41-year-old from East Lancashire is due to appear in court in London charged with terrorism offences and offences related to possession of an extreme pornographic image.

Conrad Howarth of Pinfold Place, Nelson, was arrested when officers from the Counter Terrorism Police North West unit raided an address in the town in May.

Following further investigations and enquiries, Howarth was charged with possession of a document or record of information that was of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism contrary to section 58(1)(b) Terrorism Act 2000, and possession of an extreme pornographic image contrary to section 63 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "A man is due to appear in court charged with a TACT offence

"Following an investigation by Counter Terrorism Police North West, officers executed a warrant at an address in Nelson, Lancashire on Wednesday May 5.

"During the warrant a 41-year-old man was arrested.

"Conrad Howarth of Pinfold Place, Nelson, Lancashire has been charged with possession of a document or record of information that was of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism contrary to section 58(1)(b) Terrorism Act 2000.

"And possession of an extreme pornographic image contrary to section 63 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008.

"He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on September 28."
