Every venue in East Lancashire with a zero and one star food hygiene rating

Since we last gave you a round-up of the FSA's hygiene ratings in June, six more venues, including the Contonese Box in Darwen, Cha Chai on Whalley Range and Sweet Palace in Blackburn have all been slapped with a zero star ratings - the lowest rating the FSA can give, meaning all six establishments are required to make urgent improvements.

Eighteen businesses within the borough either dropped to a one star rating, or remained on one star. 

The single star indicates major improvements are required, with outlets required to improve hygiene standards and staff practices.

A zero star rating means urgent improvement is required.

Ratings are a snapshot of the standards of food hygiene found at the time of inspection.

It is the responsibility of the business to comply with food hygiene law at all times.

This includes:

• handling of food
• how food is stored
• how food is prepared
• cleanliness of facilities
• how food safety is managed

The food hygiene rating scheme does not provide information on the following factors:

• quality of the food  
• customer service  
• culinary skill  
• presentation  
• comfort

In Burnley and Hyndburn, just one establishment in each area was handed a one star rating, while in Pendle there were four venues which were given a zero star rating.

Both Rossendale and the Ribble Valley had no businesses with zero star ratings.
