A MAN has suffered serious injuries in an early morning crash.

Blackburn Road (A666) at the junction on Stones Bank Road in Egerton was closed for several hours because of the crash.

Police, paramedics and the fire services were all in attendance, having been called to the scene at 1.15am.

The driver, a man in his 20s from Brierfield, suffered serious injuries to his head, chest and hip. He is currently in hospital, although his condition is not described as life-threatening.

Sgt Craig Salmon, of East Tactical Operations, said: “This incident has resulted in a man suffering some quite serious injuries and my thoughts are with him and his family at this time.

“We are now working to establish a fuller picture of what occurred. I would ask any witnesses or anybody with CCTV or dashcam footage which could assist our investigation to get in contact with police as soon as possible.”

The road has now re-opened.

A fire service spokesman confirmed that two engines from Darwen attended the crash, which involved a single vehicle.

They were on the scene for an hour and a half.
