A 24-year-old man has been charged after a woman was sexually assaulted in her own bed by an intruder.
Police received reports of the sexual assault on September 9, when a middle aged woman from Lancaster said she had been assaulted at an address in Morley Road in the city.
Over the weekend, police arrested a 24-year-old in Yorkshire and on Monday, Jack Burns, of no fixed address was charged with sexual assault, burglary and section 47 assault.
He will appear in court this morning.
A spokesperson for the police said: "We launched an investigation after a middle-aged woman reported being sexually assaulted at an address on Morley Road on September 9.
"Over the weekend a 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence.
"Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, Jack Burns, 24, of no fixed address was last night (Monday September 13) charged with sexual assault, burglary and Section 47 assault.
"He has been remanded to appear before magistrates in Preston this morning."
