A Blackburn pub which was closed after flash flooding has re-opened and thanked their staff with help clearing up the flood damage.

The Red Lion on Whitebirk Road closed on Thursday evening (August 9) after flash flooding hit the Whitebirk and Shadsworth areas of Blackburn.

The flooding saw water up to near table level inside the pub as well as extensive flooding outside the pub.

The pub re-opened for drinks the following evening and re-opened for food on Saturday (September 11) after a major clean-up mission.

On Friday evening, a spokesperson for the pub said: “We will be open from 6pm for drink as usual.

“Food will not be back on until tomorrow.

“Thanks for everyone’s support and messages.

“The team has done a great job again at fighting with the flood damage.”

On Saturday, the pub added: “Well that's the patio and footpath cleaned up, kitchen all clean so you know what that means.

“Food also being served today from 12pm to 8pm.”

Flash flooding also hit areas of Darwen and Hyndburn on Thursday evening.
