EAST Lancashire has some of the best pubs and restaurants in the country especially with their settings and stunning backdrops.
Well today’s Pub of the Week is no different as we have managed to pick the Ribchester Arms. The pub has a rich reputation in the area so let’s find out what make it successful.
Name of the pub
Ribchester Arms
Address of the pub:
Blackburn Road, Ribchester, PR3 3ZP
Landlord/landlady name:
Liam Fairey

3 Years. We took over from parents who had been here since 2014

Sam Hubbard, Amanda Cummins, Michelle Cummins (3 sisters who have been here for a combined 40 years and who’s children now work here part time as well)
Give us some history about the pub
It is a 1920s pub which was flooded twice in our tenure on Boxing Day 2015 and February 2020.
Is food served? Is so what’s on the menu?
Yes, every day 12-8. Full traditional pub/restaurant offering plus special board and vegetarian/vegan special board
Is there a beer garden
Yes, at the front and rear of the building
Do you have any darts/snooker/pool teams
No
Most popular drink served is:
Cumbria way
Most memorable moment at the pub
How well we have bounced back from flooding and COVID keeping the same staff and having all of our regulars returning with a smile and leaving with a full belly
Do you have an entertainment line-up?
No, unless you count Sam our famous singing hostess
Have you faced any challenges within the industry
Flooding has been the main challenge being closed for 101 days after the first flood and then 5 weeks after the second but we have very strong willed staff who love their jobs and that shows to the customers
The best thing about running a pub is
The family atmosphere amongst the staff. Everyone gets on and looks after each other and there is no better feeling then having a glass of wine and a laugh after a busy weekend shift.
The worst thing about running a pub is..
The hours. There is no such thing as “clocking on and off”. it is a lifestyle and not just a job and you are the first one in and the last one out each day so you have to enjoy what you do.
The perfect hangover cure is...
Orange Lucozade and a strong black coffee
