A RESCUE operation was launched after a person fell from a rope swing in a rural area.

The Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team were called to the River Ribble near Ribchester by the ambulance service at around 8.20pm on Tuesday.

A spokesman for the team said: “Whilst enroute, we also discussed with, and mobilised our neighbouring team, Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team (BPMRT) as we were unsure which side of river the casualty was from the information provided.

“The casualty had fallen from a rope swing and sustained multiple trauma injuries and was treated by our team's paramedics, before being joined by the Bowland Pennine team doctor.

"After treatment, the team then packaged the casualty, used a ropes system to back up the lift up to get them safely to the path before then being stretchered off to the nearby car park for the waiting ambulance.

“We hope the casualty has a comfortable recovery and our thoughts and wishes are with the family.

“Please remember, RPMRT are a charity wholly supported by you the public, enabling our volunteers to provide this 24/7 emergency service 365 days a year.”
