The M65 has reopened westbound between Junctions 3 and 4.
Lancashire Police and National Highways Traffic Officers were called along with paramedics from North West Ambulance Service and an air ambulance.
No details have been released of the incident.
With traffic being diverted there are delays on the A674 Preston Old Road and A6062 Livesey Branch Road on the earlier diversion routes and around Blackburn.
All lanes have been re-opened. Travel time is 20 minutes.
The road was reopened around 5.40pm.
Drivers were earlier being asked to follow diversions by Highways England.
